Tulips

For the last couple of years I had begged Jeremy to take me to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point. Each time I'd ask he would go on about how the quantity of tulips Thanksgiving Point had to offer was probably nothing to that of Washington and that if I could wait he'd be sure that I got my fill of flowers. So finally this year we went. And here is what Washington had to offer...

Nah I'm only kidding. Jeremy was good for his word and there were fields upon fields of tulips.

Miracle in the Ashes

Most of you have probably heard about the fire that has destroyed the historical Provo Tabernacle, but I felt it was something I wanted to post to remember for myself. I, like many others, loved this building for it's amazing architecture as well as for the memories created inside. The loss of this building has caused me to reflect on the emotions that were surely felt by those final pioneers leaving Nauvoo and turning to see that beautiful temple in flames.

I wanted to share this small miracle discovered when firefighters were finally able to enter the tabernacle. Click here to see the video.

I realize that life can be difficult: in moments when I feel like I'm standing alone among the ashes, if I pause and look around I would see that not all is lost. I am not alone. I will always be able to turn to my Savior and find his arms stretched wide offering peace and comfort.

Snow!?!

Jeremy and I are planning a trip to Rexburg Idaho at the end of the week and have to cross two mountain passes. We have been hoping to have good weather. Well we woke up yesterday morning to see this:

about 3 inches of snow on the ground.

Well by the end of the tonight there is about 8 inches on the ground!

I sure hope we make it out of here. I guess we'll see.

Night Lights in Seattle

Jeremy and I met up with some old friends in Seattle the other night. We went on a short walk and I wanted to share the view. Pretty, right?

Bucket List #1

Rachel suggested putting together a "bucket list" to complete before we bid adieu to Provo. The first task to check off from the list was to revisit the site where I proposed (to Rachel).

Of course I pitched the idea around 7:00 p.m. and Rachel informed me that she needed to be back before 9:00 a.m. to show some apartments the following morning. Within twenty minutes we packed up our backpacks with just the necessities: sleeping bags, pad, tarp, and tent. Rachel would not go unless she could bring her pillow. I unwillingly allowed it, only because she threatened not to come if she had to rest her head on the ground.

Go Fly a Kite!

Rachel and I went to a family get-together in Murray and on the way home decided to stop by the Intermountain Medical Center to see if Christopher was working. Sure enough, there was his unmistakable Estoril M3. Within minutes he came bounding out of his office, ending his day at work and looking for us (after noticing our car parked adjacent to his own). We decided to go to the point of the mountain to fly our little kite. It was a blast.

Descending into the Bowels of the Earth

Many of you may think we are crazy, but we have recently taken up caving. For the record, we have and do take every safety precaution that we can, and go only in groups mostly consisting of professional cavers (these are the guys that create the cave maps and serve on rescue teams). I don't have many pictures but here are a few.

Fourth Of July

Again this was a month ago...

My nephew and niece lil' A and EMB came with Jeremy and I to watch the Freedom Festival Parade on the 4th of July. We were anticipating the weather to be super hot but as you can see we were fortunate enough to get a little cloud cover for the whole parade. I think overall it was a pretty good parade.

That had to be fun to be dressed up as Darth Vader in July.

I thought this one was pretty impressive. It was done by a ward. If you notice it says "Family Time is Sharing Time" and apparently some family is sharing with a bunch of ants.

Nothing says "God Bless America" like a giant bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Wasatch Ragnar Relay 2008!

I know that we created this blog ages ago and we really had great intentions of posting but procrastination has had the best of us. So in the next couple of posts we are going to try to play a little catch up.

This first one we see here was the Ragnar Relay back in late May. The relay consists of 12 runners that run a total of 182 miles and takes roughly 24-30 hours. Each runner runs three legs which total approximately a half marathon. Jeremy was one of these lucky twelve to run. I didn't run but just volunteer.

Jeremy ran the very last leg. As he came in the rest of the team got to run the final stretch with him over the finish line.

Happy but exhausted.

I felt a little silly getting a metal because I didn't run but everyone involved in a "team" receives a metal that includes the team's volunteers. So I guess good job to me.

This is the field you arrive to at the finish line. I just thought the umbrellas and clouds looked cool.

I now feel one with the Ewoks.

As we were enjoying the Hardy Family Reunion our tent gave up the ghost. To replace our dearly departed tent we stumbled across these two little beauties (The hammocks not the two good looking people you see below).

They are Hennessy Hammocks. We bought them without really knowing what we were getting into. But, all doubts were put to rest after a trip to the duck pond just south of campus. Rachel really likes that they are super light, and really easy to set up. I like that they will cut down on the amount of supplies we will hike into an area. Because of the hammocks we won't need to find a level patch of soft ground, bring ground cover, and a sleeping pad. There are no poles, just two anchor points and two stakes.

The entrance is through the bottom of the hammock and the velcro seals up once you get inside. (Look a beautiful butterfly emerging from it's cocoon)

Pretty spacious eh?
Cool camping chairs to boot.
Hope to see you all soon and we are excited to go camping... preferably somewhere with trees.
